An important advantage of DCT Gdansk’s location is the availability of a large area planned for development out to sea and on land. The development will significantly increase DCT’s transportation capacity on all mode fronts (sea, road and rail).
The first stage of development was completed on the 1st of October 2007 with infrastructure and equipment to handle an annual capacity of 600,000 TEU.
Once annual volumes approach 600,000 TEU, the second phase of the terminal’s construction will be implemented. Phase two of the project will increase the capacity to 1,000,000 TEU per annum. This will comprise a quay extension of 350m seawards, with the storage area platform extended accordingly.
Next phases of the expansion will entail a mirror image of the first two phases with vessels berthing along the east side of the platform which will be increased from 315m in width to approximately 680m. With additional equipment and manpower, the complete development will have a capacity of 4,000,000 TEU per annum.
